Wedding May 30th, 2019 at Borghinvilla in Discovery Bay Jamaica
It’s truly amazing that one country can bring so much love, special memories and re connections all in one special week.
Bride & Groom:
When choosing a destination for our wedding the decision was easy! Jamaica was the clear choice for a few reasons that are near and dear to our hearts. Stephanie a travel agent from Travel Agents in Acton planned an amazing trip for all her family and guests. Before having children, Stephanie’s Dad found a passion for Jamaica. He fell in love with the people the country and the culture later taking the whole family to Jamaica every year until Stephanie was nine. During these vacations, the locals were more like family with visits to their homes where they treated us like family – we were fully engulfed in the island lifestyle! In the early ‘90s a Jamaican by the name of Barry travelled back to Canada living with the family and working in the family construction business. In 2002 Stephanie’s Dad passed away. Jamaica was and always will be his happy place so it made sense to marry there to feel a little bit closer!
Joaquim, business owner of KW Vintage and Games in Kitchener, Ontario, and his family also has a Jamaican connection. Between the ages of 4 and 8 a Jamaican Nanny by the name of Jessie lived in the family home caring for him. At the age of 8, one day while Joaquim was at work Jessie was deported back to Jamaica without warning. Joaquim never saw Jessie again and the family eventually lost touch over the years. When wedding planning began Joaquim became curious about what had happened to Jessie and began reaching out on Jamaican Facebook groups in an effort to find Jessie. It didn’t take long for the connection to be made and he was able to speak to Jessie on the phone, inviting her to attend the wedding!! The family was reunited in Jamaica and it was so special to have Jessie there!
One of our favourite parts of the wedding was having most of our closest friends and family all together in one spot!
We are so blessed to have had so many travel all the way to Jamaica to celebrate with us!!
